Life can be stressful no matter where you are, whether it be a hectic schedule, a big project, or just reasons you cannot understand. As a college student, I know the stress firsthand. Between exams, assignments, and work it can be a stressful time. My main solution has been a little donut place nearby, University Donuts. This blog will give you some quick little tidbits of advice on stress relief, with me and my favorite breakfast spot as an example.

Start the day right!

Breakfast is the first meal of the day and you must get a good one. If you've got an event-filled day facing it on an empty stomach first thing can put you on a downslide. When looking into starting the day right an article by the Better Health Channel tells us that in the night our bodies still burn some energy to keep blood sugar levels at a safe level. Starting the day without breakfast may give you reduced energy throughout the day. This can lead to low motivation which allows responsibilities to slip and stress to build. It has been my tradition that for the first day of finals to drop by University Donuts in Hammond LA, and order from their absolutely amazing breakfast menu to give me a good start to the week.

Breakfast with Friends!

Another key stress factor is isolation. When life piles on it's easy to feel alone and hopeless, having social interactions can often help! In an article by the Mayo Clinic, they mention connections with others as a major stress reliever. Whenever I visit University Donuts the friendly staff never fails to lift my spirits. There have been moments where I have felt incredibly alone and stopping by for coffee and a donut gives me that boost in community I need.

Feels Like Home

A large portion of both of these aspects I think hinges on something important. a feel of home. You can get breakfast anywhere but without a relaxed feeling, you can feel tense or like an outsider. An experience of relaxation and community is fostered by a safe homely environment. When you try and think of a place you can go to relax and eat a good meal in the community, think about what aspects of that place make it feel like home.

Do What Works For You!

Ultimately what helps you relax is all up to you. All of us are different and for one of us, a morning started with a big breakfast in a comforting place with friendly staff sounds fantastic! For someone else, it may seem like a nightmare. So no matter what suits you just remember that you are what matters in your stress relief. But if you're interested in what I enjoy to unwind visit University Donuts' Facebook here to get a sneak peek!
